Skipping Win2000 PW check

I do not use a Windows PW, not necessary since it's my home computer. I used
to be able to boot up and the sequence would simply go right on by the PW
check. Now, for some reason, it always stops at the PW check and I have to
hit enter or click on OK to continue the boot up. Is there a check box to
click or unclick or some other way to avoid having to hang around to respond
to a PW check when there's no PW to check?

Thanks and regards,

PJF

You can run regedit.exe and navigate to;
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
edit the Reg_Sz string values
"DefaultUserName"
and
"DefaultPassword"
to reflect the correct username and password. (note: the password for an
autologon account can not be blank)

Thanks, Dave. No problem with finding the "DefaultUserName"; it's OK. But
There's no entry in the registry that I can find either at the address you
gave me or anywhere else named "DefaultPassword". Did I miss something? Do
I have to add it and then enter a nominal PW?

Thanks and regards,

I assumed an out-of-sync autologon. Try this first. Control Panel|Users and
Passwords, then uncheck the box for "Users must enter a user name and
password to use this computer"

Perfect! Merci<g> I had a hunch it was something that simple but just was
to dumb to look at the obvious item in the control panel. Works just the
way I want it to.

Again, thanks for the quick reply and quick fix.
