Skipping Audio

I have skipping audio on all sources - it sounds very like
an old vinyl LP skipping. I mean all sources - MP3's,
CD's, DVD movies, system sounds, DVD audio, and streaming
content.

Virus scans are clean. I have reinstalled W2000 from my
computer's system restore disk, and it seemed fixed for a
short while; but the skipping came back.

The computer is a Dell Latitude C840 laptop with 1.6 GHz
processor, 512MB.

.
it's either you cd/dvd unit or the motherboard. I'm a
Dell Certified Tech. I suggest you exercise your warranty
options or if they're expired, try a different cd unit.
if that doesn't work it's your motherboard wich
unfortunately is not uncommon with Dell laptops if they
are used excessivly in a normal day to day business
enviornment and or of a year or more old. Is youe 840 new
or refurbished?

I've seen this problem before and it appears to happen when there are hardware interrupts occurring from other devices. I used to
notice it when my hard drive was being accessed. Right about that same time my sound would skip. Didn't seem to matter what the
source was--it would even happen while playing games.

I eventually bought a new computer and the problem went away. :P You might want to ensure you're running the latest drivers for
your sound card and other hardware devices in the system.
