Wondered if Asus SK8V board gives me the best performance on 2 SATA discs
Raid connected to the VIA standard controller or to the Promise ?

Have tried both, installed same XP, drivers etc. and tried to time copying
of files on both controllers. Same timed result, 37 sec.

Difference: VIA stripe Raid 0 with 64kb, Promise stripe Raid 0 with 128kb.
Via doesn't suppoert 128kb stripe, only 64 as max.

Which connection to choose for my permanent hookup ?

If by email: remove "spam." from address.

The only way to tell is to actually benchmark your system.

Bear in mind that the optimal setting depends a lot on what is on the
partition, and more importantly, the sizes of the files on the partition
that you wish to optimise transfers for.

You'll need to bench both controllers with varying cluster sizes to
determine the best for your intended requirements.
