I just bought a nice WD Raptor SATA drive for my board. The BIOS detects it,
Windows detects it (when I boot from my older IDE drive), but I just can't
figure how to boot from the SATA drive. I have fiddled with the board's BIOS
settings endlessly, but there seems to be no way I can set the main boot
device to be the SATA drive. Anyone has an idea? How the f...k can I install
Windows on a SATA drive if I can't set the drive as the boot device?!?

Have you tried "Interrupt 19 Capture' [Enabled] ?

I have a copy of a document from AMI, and even in there, they remain
mute on the topic of such things, as how to boot via PXE (LAN boot).
Interrupt 19 capture is mentioned (a.k.a interrupt 0x13, the interrupt
routine the OS calls in the BIOS, to read off any device that registers
itself). But once the BIOS code modules are enabled, the AMI doc
doesn't mention where the choices offered by these devices, will
show up.

I would try pressing <f10> just after you turn on the power.
Someone mentioned a <f10> boot submenu that will popup, and
perhaps all the boot options will be in there.

In any case, if you solve it, post the answer, so we finally
know for sure.

Disable the PATA HDD in the BIOS setup menu. This leaves only the SATA HDD
visible to the Windows installation routine. Once you have completed the
Windows install onto the Raptor, go back into the BIOS setup menu and
renable the PATA HDD.

Are you using Intel RAID? If so make sure the you have " Serial ATA Bootrom"
enabled in the Bios

OK, I fainally solved the problem. It was a case of a labyrintine BIOS:
before I can assign boot priority to the SATA drive, I have first to access
another menu which defines priority among hard drives (I have an IDE drive
in my system). After this is done now my Raptor appears in the
boot-priority.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
