sizing image during insert->picture

I put a fixed size table(fixed row & col. size) on a document and then
insert an image into a cell.

If the inerted image is larger than the target cell, part(s) of the image
end up being hidden behind the cell border. If I don't use a fixed table,
sometimes the image stretches the table outside the edges of the sheet. And
if I don't use a table, a large image will also strectc off the sheet.

Is there any way Word can size the picture on the way in
(inserting->picture->from file)?

other than first scaling the picture in a paint program.

Thanks for any response

Hi Mike

Insert a frame (from the Forms toolbar, not that frames necessarily have
anything to do with forms) or a textbox, sized approximately the way you
want the picture. Then insert the picture inside, and it will automatically
scale to fit in the box.

You could probably do this with a macro, but I don't see any easy way o
telling Word what size the image should be unless the code include
tests for table cell sizes, if in a table, text box size, if in a tex
box, etc.

Unless you're doing a great deal of this, it's probably easier t
select the image and resize it once it's in the document.
