I have a 14 minute 156meg AVI file that I cannot import into WMM

Is there any way of doing it other than re-recording it in smaller
chunks ?

Are there any inexpensive utilities that would Convert the AVI to WMV ??

I downloaded 'GSpot' - it showed that the Codec is CRAM/ Microsoft Video
1
It shows that it is not installed.
Now I am completely baffled - The AVI file is playable in full by
Windows Media Player.

Am I going Mad or merely showing my ignorance
(or both - lol)

When you open Movie Maker and go to...
File / Import into collections....and select the
..avi file in question...what *exactly* happens?

Are you running Windows Media Player 10?
You could try reinstalling it.

Download from the following site:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/download/download.aspx

Hi John

Thanks for your interest.

Please look at :-
http://www.byershostinggeorge.co.uk/test/mediaplayer.htm
and
http://www.byershostinggeorge.co.uk/test/moviemaker.htm
and
http://www.byershostinggeorge.co.uk/test/gspot.htm

The AVI was made using "My Screen Recorder 2.5" as have several
other AVI's that have worked perfectly.

Note the time duration in MediaPlayer
(and it plays perfectly for all 14 minutes)

Note then the time in MovieMaker

By the way, I tried splitting the AVI using VirtualDub, that
produced two files around four Gig
The second one went no further than the Imprt shown in the
MovieMaker file above.

Thank you

Thanks for the info but what would it take
to get an actual answer to my question?

===

And...did you try reinstalling WMP10?

Maybe the following download would be useful:

STOIK VideoConverter 2.1.1

When you open Movie Maker and go to...
File / Import into collections....and select the
.avi file in question...what *exactly* happens?

The import appears to work and gives the window that I showed you
A progress window pops up to show the import proceeding
At the end it says"8 clips imported".
That is *exactly* what happens - nothing else

No errors - no warnings
===

And...did you try reinstalling WMP10?

Yes - I did re-install WMP10
Maybe the following download would be useful:

STOIK VideoConverter 2.1.1
http://www.stoik.com/products/svc/index.html

I will get it

Sorry that I didnt make it clear that I had done *exactly* what you
suggested !!

Tried conversion using STOIK
AVI -> WMV - conversion completed
Quality of Video not acceptable
Nothing like as good as when produced by WMM

Tried AVI -> Smaller DV-AVI clips on individual files
Quality not accepable again

Sadly and reluctantly, I am coming to accept that I will
have to publish the AVI on the CD.
Never mind Eh, I tried !!
