My question is... How much hard drive space does a typical
installation of XP Pro take up? I am not aking what the
minimum amount of hard drive space you need to run XP
Pro... just how much space does it actually take up. A
friend of mine and I have a bet going... he says it takes
up less than 1.5 gigs. I said 6 gigs. Who's closer?
Please help me settle this.
Thanks,
jdove

One reason to allow extra space, defragging needs at least
15% free space in order to run. Defrag moves files around
to vacant space in order to create the continuous space
needed to write the files, then it cleans up the temp files.

I have 4 partitions of about 20 GB and find that works well.
When I add a second hard drive I will have a slightly
different arrangement on the new drive, probably 4 20 GB and
a single large partition with the remainder.

message | Your friend is closer.
| About 1.5gb on a very basic installation.
| However when you are planning, you should allocate at
least 4gb.
| That includes space for Service Packs and updates, but
does not allow
| for any other files or applications..
