size of program exceeds 3 gig

In helping out my brother with a computer he was given, we
determined that the 6 gig HD was full. After searchign the
user folders, the temp folders and uninstalling most
things, we hadn't freed up much space. On inspection of the
program files folder, we discovered the MS Antispyware
folder was consuming 3 + gig. Having trouble believing he
was seeing this correctly, I had him uninstall the program
and delete the folder. And wham, he had 3 gig free space.
My question is, is that normal? I checked other PC's I had
installed the program on, and the program files folder was
less than 1 gig in every case. What could have caused it to
consume so much space on this one computer?

Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware from the notfication area, navigate to
c:\program files\microsoft antispyware and delete the "errors" log text
file. Restart the computer.

We already uninstalled the program and deleted the entire
folder from program files, so I can't do that, but I take
it you have seen the error log grow to a large size?

No I didn't because I had already deleted the entire folder
before posting. I should have made that clearer in my
initial post. My question is actually just if this is a
normal size, and your post (Thank You) made me wonder if
you had seen the error log grow to a large size before, so
that if I should run into the problem again, I will know
where to start looking for a solution.

Its normal for error log to grow to that size. I read somewhere in the
newsgroups it possibly has something to do with no support in limited
accounts. I think this will be fixed in beta 2.

Jenn--the errors.log file can grow to 4 gigabytes on an NTFS partition,
under circumstances which are not accurately predictable. I've seen it do
this on a couple of Windows 2000 servers, and I uninstalled the product from
those machines--not worth the risk.

On a workstation machine, it's your choice. I've seen it go for weeks
without growing unusually, and then take off--it isn't predictable. I would
expect this to be fixed in the next beta download offering, but I don't have
a prediction about when that might be available.

ps something on topic. A consumerstest organisation has tested some
antyspyware. And already MSAS is the best one.
Do you have any knowlegde of MS is sponsoring this ? :)

(e-mail address removed) formulated the question :
they should fix this errror.log on beta 2 as nobody wants
to loose 4 gigabytes

It will be fixed, just remove this error.log, it will be created again
after
reboot or uninstall MSAS.

The same happened to me. It grew as I watched, repeating
the same line over and over. I contacted MS to no avail.
They ignored me. So I just blew the app.away for all
eternity. A garbage spyware considering what's out
there.Do your homework and put a few freebees plus one
good "pay for" on your comp.
