I open a new form in design view. Here I insert a picture - a 1271 x 966
pixel bitmap.
On one PC (with Win2000, Access2000 and a screen resolution of 1400 x 1050)
the "width" of this image is 33.651 cm
On another PC (with WinXP, Access2003 (but Access2000 default file format)
and a screen resolution of 1920 x 1200 the "width" is only 26.922 cm.

Why is that?

I've never figured out why Access gives the size of on-screen elements in
inches, since the apparent size of the image will vary both with your screen
resolution and with the size of your monitor.

If you have a monitor that is 15" in diagonal, displaying at 800x 600, for
example, the entire width of that screen (say 13" for the sake of a
math-challenged person not willing to do the math) will only have 800
"units" in which a given color can be displayed, and 600 "units" vertically.
Naturally, these pixels will be very large, relatively speaking.

Now, take that same monitor and display it at 1024 x 768. Now it has more
than 200 additional pixels it has to fit on the screen horizontally, and an
extra 168 vertically. So these units will be much smaller. By the same
token, 100 pixels shown at this resolution will fit in a smaller area on
screen at this resolution than at a lower resolution.

The width Access is giving you is the size it will be when printed, so
Access apparently realizes that the image will appear smaller to you on
screen and adjusts the print size accordingly.

OK - I also have this issue with forms not displaying in full on my new
wide-screen laptop despite the fact that it has more pixels. So I believe
that there is some "cm-to-pixels" conversion that actually uses more pixels
per centimeter on the new screen.

Can I somehow set that conversion factor myself?

Now having 1200 pixels on the vertical as opposed to 1050, I would expect
any given form to be taking up less vertical space if this factor was the
same on both laptops.
