I had the impression that beyond the
"Temporary Internet" files there existed
a hidden file of URL's visited. Like
something perhaps a parental module
might keep.....that's not the case here,
but still I had the impression there was
yet another history kept.

A good all round cleaner is CCleaner (www.ccleaner.com). It clears out far
more than just the temporary internet files, cookies and history. I use it
regularly and wouldn't be without it.

If you do online banking and store details on your PC you may find that you
have to keep keying them in after running CCleaner (simply because they have
been removed by the cleaning process.) Any cookies you need to keep on your
PC, simply make sure you open the Options menu and tell CCleaner which
cookies to keep.

I run the application manually but, again from the options>settings you can
set CCleaner to run when your PC boots up.

John,
Thanks for the heads-up on CCleaner. I've been so busy
doing development work that some basic housecleaning
went un-attended. There was a lot of crap beyond the
simple "Temporary Internet Files". And yes, it was most
helpful to have the "options" to exclude some cookies from
the "chopping-block".

Thanks again,
Bill

Neglecting the inaccuracy of the impression they want you to have of
index.dat, and the silly prose, it's not a needed app. XP provides
perfectly good deletion methods, and you CAN see those files if you wish to
by turning them on in the File options. I seldom see jack-hype as bad as I
consider that page to be and it's now on my never-visit again list.

Just my opinion,

Maybe you can shed light on index.dat that I've missed. For example please
tell me exactly how you can view and modify the contents of index.dat
natively from Windows XP? .

Also please tell me how the link I provided is so offensive and inaccurate
that you believe it should be avoided.

Thank you.
