Sites and Services

The parent domain doesn't have any servers listed for each
of the two child domain sites. But when i go to one of
the child domain servers it has the servers listed. Is
this a DNS issue or another problem why the servers aren't
showing up in the sites and services snap-in on the parent
domain?

It's probably replication. Have you checked replication with
RepAdmin and/or ReplMon?

The weird thing is that any changes made gets replicated
to each site. Repadmin shows no connection link to
replicate data but it still occurs. What would cause the
servers not to be detected?

Jeff,

Didn't you ask this question recently? I seem to remember
this for some reason.

If I recell, someone asked you if you had Sites and
Services set up properly. Meaning, that you had created
the appropriate Subnets and associated each Subnet with
the appropriate Site.

Try running DCDAIG and NETDIAG on all of your DCs. I also
like to run NLTEST. As Herb stated, try both of the
utilities: REPADMIN and REPLMON.

Yes, i have all subnets setup for each site. I did use
those tools you specified but the problem is that the
domain controllers aren't specified so it doesn't show any
errors. If you connect to the chils sites you see the
domain controllers but when you're at the parent site you
don't see them. Is it possible to add the domain
controllers from the child sites that are missing?

Your terminology (mistake) above concerns me a little -- it my
be just a wording error or it may indicate some significant misunderstanding
that might be hindering you:

There is no such thing as a "child site" -- child domains, yes. Domains and
Sites are really independent; in fact, that is the point of Sites, to remove
the
interdependency of Domains and a "WAN locations and architecture" (as
much as possible.

Is a Site or a Domain larger? This question is unanswerable since there is
no direct relationship between the two concepts. Sites are more of a forest
concept and this is the reason you DO EXPECT to see the child domain DCs
in the correct sites container even when viewed from a parent domain DC.

Every DC in the forest is SUPPOSED to replicate the Configuration
(essentially
Sites and Services info) through the Forest to every other DC from every
domain.

Have you actually verified that the Configuration partitition is replicated
to all DCs?
(I did read your reference to ReplMon but I didn't get the feeling you gave
a clean
confirmation.)

Also, as Cary suggests, DCDiag on EVERY DC and save the output to a file --
search these files for FAIL, WARN, ERROR and fix all such.
