Who can help me with the next problem.
Some site installed itself onto my Startpage in XP Professional. It's
omegasearch.com and I can't get rid of it, despite my efforts.
I tried removing the entries in the registry, it didn't work and i am
getting quite desparate.

"Despite my efforts" - what are these efforts?
Have you run spy/adware removal tools? AdAware? SpyBot? SpySweeper?
CWShredder? Have you cleaned our your hosts file? Have you added the
site to your untrusted zone?

I agree with your response, in that I have read far too many pleas for
help which include vague phrases like "I've tried everything." I
generally assume this to mean that the OP has tried nothing.

That said, where is this "untrusted zone" located? No doubt it must be
somewhere between the "sceptical zone" and the "right out completely
zone." ;)

It's the *empty zone* between the keyboard and the chair. :-?
