Hello,

This is more of a curiousity question and I simply don't know where to go to
find an answer. I will be starting a project for a client in the coming
weeks we're we'll be migrating an NT 4.0 platform to Windows 2003 Active
Directory. My client has over 1300 remote branch offices which I'll have to
consider in my site design. Can anyone tell me if they've taken on a
project with that many sites? Where would I find the biggest AD migration
with the most sites?

Thanks

It certainly isn't the biggest implementation, I've done lots of enterprise
implementations and one thing you should think about is that 1300 branch
offices in NT4 will probably not be the same in Windows Server 2003. Most of
the times you can consolidate this with AD to a few sites depending on site
links etc.
In order to answer your question in more detail I need more information
about your environment. Do you need more than one forest, do you need more
than one tree within the forest(s), do you need a multiple domain design,
bandwidth, current WAN links etc....

One good starting point is to take a look at the Branch Office Deployment
guide for Windows 2000, the guide for 2003 isn't release yet but I'm
currently delivering seminars on the differences in regards of branch office
deployment between 2000 and 2003. If you read the BOD guide for 2000 it will
give you an idea on how it worked in AD, then when the 2003 guide ship you
can probably consolidate the number of sites even more! :)
But it all depends on you infrastructure.

Regards,
/Jimmy
