WinXP Home Edition Ver 2002 SP2
In Classic Start Menu/Customize there is no option to tick/untick Display
Log Off.
Can anyone please tell me what I did to make it disappear and
how to restore it? As a single user I find it an annoyance to
have Log Off in the Start Menu. Any fix welcome. Many thanks

Go to Start -> Run and enter regedit.exe in the Open box.
Click OK.
Navigate to the following registry key,

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Look in the right hand pane for a value named StartMenuLogoff.
Make sure the data for this value is set to 0.
You may have to log off and back on for the changes to take
place.

Take a look at these articles for more info:

Show Log Off Option on the Start Menu

Remove Log Off from the Start Menu

Good luck
