I am trying to help out a friend who has a PC running Windows XP Home
Edition, and where Automatic Update keeps failing to install SP2. The PC is
now displaying a message to the effect that her operating system is out of
date.
The Microsoft Update error messages suggest that the download has taken
place - this stage takes no time at all to run each time we visit the
Microsoft Update site - but the installation phase fails every time.
I'd hoped that we'd be able to download it for her and apply it, or be able
to get hold of a CD of it, but all that I can find is an absolutely massive
250+MB download of a network version of SP2. Even if this version would do
the job for a single user PC - does anyone know if it would? - we live in a
remote part of Ireland where broadband is not available, and 250+MB through
an ISDN connection is deeply unattractive!
Is a CD of the single PC version of SP2 available anywhere?
Thank you.
