Single contact in a group?

Is is possible to select just one email address out of a group to send to.
Its nice to be able to send to the entire group, but what about just one
individual? Can it be done without having everyone in the group in the main
contact group?
 
A contact group is like a mailing list. It's an all or nothing proposition.
