Single-Click Feature in Folder Options

I like the single-click feature, but have a slight
problem when I want to save an external file on my hard
drive. For instance, when I'm saving an attachment from
an email, and do a "file save as", navigate to my
documents and then a subfolder with many files in it, if
my cursor hovers over another filename, then my
attachment name is changed to that name (and I will
overwrite the file that's already on my hard drive -
which is not what I want). Is there anyway to customize
this through either regedit or the application interface
to prevent this from occurring? Thanks for your help.

Just a guess. In TweakUI there's the x-mouse setting which can do
peculiar things in combination with the single-click option.
Activation follows the mouse, which is apparently supposed to mean
that the presence of the mouse gives focus wherever it is at, but I've
read other messages indicating unwanted launches
