Our database is used by a group of 20 persons, although
each has access to the database only one person at a time
can enter/modify data.

By opening it non-exclusively. Access is, by default, multiuser; you
have to go to some extra effort to make it exclusive. How are you
opening the database?

For it to work well with multiple users, there are a few additional
considerations beyond opening in shared mode, as John suggested.

For a start and review of topics I thought to be of interest on the subject,
download the presentation I did for my user group on "Access in a Multiuser
Environment" from http://appdevissues.tripod.com. And, for the best
collection of links and information on multiuser Access that I know about,
visit MVP Tony Toews' site at http://www.granite.ab.ca/accsmstr.htm.
