I have a domain with 16 sites - trying to reduce to 12
sites.
Some of the sites are connected directly via high speed
fiber connections - about 10MB I assume.
Each Site has 1 DC/GC.
Each site has its own subnet.

I would like to optimize AD replication...

Can I join these fast connected sites togehter without
making any changes other than a new site link to the
core/first site? The new combined site would now have 2
subnets with a DC on each subnet.
Also I assume I would benefit from a DNS server in each
site?

thanks:)

Yes you can - ther shoul be no problem with this, connections are fast
enough to handle with user requests and intrasite replication traffic.
When You convert this to single subnet select one server in each site
and create link to create replication between this server nad other site
(central) , into the site You can let KCC to set replication topology.
