No problems?
I'm a newbie, but I am as careful as my limited knowledge
of computers allows. New XPhome, linskys hardwired
router,Av & other protective software. I never use my
real email address except with people or places I
completely trust. I've never received even one piece of
spam and never had a virus or worm. Even so,and try as I
may,one of my relatives insists on sending emails with
attachments and CCs me along with about a thousand of her
closest friends, that is the only problem I have. Needless
to say, her emails, and attachments, go directly to the
dumpster without being opened.
My question is this, I purchased an emachine with XP home
pre-loaded,and have a recovery disk. From what I now
understand, this is not the best of options. The thing is
that I would not know what to look for when buying a
computer, or where to find anything better,at any price.
As I understand, having a retail version would be much
better according to everything I have heard, yet I have
never seen a retail version. Does one buy the XP on a CD
and place it on a computer with no OS, or what? Anyway, I
thought I had a "retail version". I bought the computer
at a retail store and paid a retail price. But no,there's
always a catch in the fine print, especially constructed
for the uninformed to tangle themselves up in.
Making backups is still a mystery to me. I've read
several differant articles on backups and each author has
his own opinion, and each only gets harder and more
confusing to accomplish. And to make matters worse MS
gives us a CD burner but will not allow us to use it as a
backup tool. Go figure!
If you have'nt already figured it out, I'm about as old
as dirt,so naturally I ramble on about everything.
Hope someone can make sense enough of this and does'nt
mind trying to answer.
