Hello!

I have a w2k sp4 on each of two partition in one HD and wireless router.
They can connect to internet before. But now it suddently can not connect. I
check its ip is 169.xxx.....when it uses DHCP. I know this is not the correct
ip. I should have 192.168......ip.

I manually assign my pc ip to 192.168...., GW,DNS,and Mask, then I can login
to router and ping outside from pc as an ip but it can not ping as a domain
name.
nslookup showing can not find default server which is router. I check router
from router to ISP is fine but just can not connect to internet from lan?

I reset router and configure using my isp DNS server but it still can not
ping as a domain name. On partition 2 w2k has the same problem. All this just
work before. How come it just not work one day?

Please any help? Thanks a lot.

Simple answer: Your DHCP server is no longer working. About
your manual settings: We cannot tell why they do not work unless
you post your full IP addressing details.

Here it is.

IP:192.168.0.3
Mask:255.255.255.0
GW:192.168.0.1
DNS:192.168.0.1 , 206.13.29.12

How can I make DHCP work again?

IF you want Manual setting to work you would need to put the "206" dns
first.

As to making the "DHCP" work, you will need to read the setup
instructions for your router.

I will try it.

Ask your service provider for the IP address of his Domain Name
Server, then enter this address into the second box under the DNS
heading.

Is 206.13.29.12 actually a DNS? If you don't know, I would suggest
setting your computer to automatically get an IP and then connect it to
the modem, bypassing the router. Then do IPCONFIG /All and see what you get.

Bypassing the router may not be a good idea - it could expose
the OP's machine to hacker attacks within minutes.

Yes, if he isn't running a firewall, that is very true.

Yes, it is my isp DNS. I tested my router at my work place is fine. My route
and DHCP is working. I found out if in safe mode I can go to internet.
any suggestion?

What do you have starting up? Something you have loading is "breaking"
your network device. have you installed perhaps an incorrect driver?

I checked wireless driver is good and no question mark in device manager.

Since the Safe Mode works, we can say the the hardware functions and you
have a good path and the DNS is working properly, that leaves something
being loaded in normal mode that is interfering. Perhaps malware?

I use pccillin and norton has no virus or malware.

As Bob wrote, you're loading something in Normal Mode that you're
not loading in Safe Mode. Your task is to find out what it is. Run
msconfig.exe and disable all services (other than Microsoft services
and PC-Cillin stuff) and all Startup programs (other than PC-Cillin),
reboot and repeat your tests.

I diagnostic my computer these days and I think I fixed my problem. I
reinstall the winsock and is working.

Thanks to both of you giving me suggestions.
