Hello,

I have a simple question about two dns servers.

My first is a primary dns and have more than 260 zones.

My second is a new secondary dns.

In the first server I have add IP address from my secondary dns.

Must I add each zone (secondary zone) on my secondary dns or is this
automatically added/transfered by the master ?

Thanks for reply !

Jérôme

You need to create secondary zones on the second server and then zone
transfers should begin.

In addition to Marc's post, since you have 260 zones, look into the dnscmd
utility in the WIndows 2000 Resource Kit to create those zone for you.

Also, you may want to look at Dean Wells' DNS Dump utility at:
Dean Wells' DNSDump (note: there's an underscore at the end of the link):
http://www.reskit.net/DNS/dnsdump.cm_

Also a 3rd party tool:

You'll have to add each zone unfortunately. This is one of the areas where
AD integrated zones can really make your life easier. If the primary DNS
held AD integrated zones and you simply wanted a second DNS server then all
you'd have to do is install the DNS service and all the zones would come
over automatically.
