Hi, Is it possible to configure outlook to *delete* messages arrived via
IMAP, but not to *mark for deletion*

Thank you

The e-mails never "arrived". They are still back on the IMAP server.
When you do a mail poll, you just get the headers. The e-mail is still
back on the IMAP server. When you download the e-mail, you get a *copy*
of the e-mail. The e-mail is still back on the IMAP server. When you
delete an e-mail in your client, it just marks the e-mail as deleted.
The e-mail is still back on the IMAP server (but has its status changed
to deleted). Not until you do a purge (Edit -> Purge) do the
delete-marked e-mail items -- on the IMAP server -- actually get
deleted.

The purpose of IMAP is to keep the e-mails, their attributes, and their
status stored on a server that you can access from multiple locations.
The state of your e-mail account remains the same despite accessing it
from different locations. Having to do a Purge after delete-marking
e-mails is a disadvantage of using IMAP. Some e-mail clients compensate
for this. I've heard that Outlook Express will perform an automatic
purge when focus is changed to a different folder than the one for the
IMAP account. Outlook doesn't do this (I don't know if OL2003 finally
added ease-of-use in deleting messages from IMAP servers).

Unfortunately Outlook doesn't support immediate deletion. You have a
couple options, either use "Views" to hide deleted messages, or hit
Purge a lot.
