Ok I have DNS configured to forward to a BIND server. I
configured this server to point to itself for DNS
resolution. A simple test by getting on google or CNN or
yahoo works fine. But when I go to the that Monitoring
Tab and do the "simple query against this DNS server"
test it fails everytime. I have verified from the BIND
team that my server is allowed to make requests so what
am I missing?
Please help

"simple query against this DNS server" should not involve the BIND server,
so it's a problem with your DNS server. But since you say you can get to
Google and all, then "hmmmmmm........". What does your nslookup look like
from the DNS server itself? Also, is the server dual-home?

1) Make sure your not forwarding to yourself
2) pointing to yourself for resolution in the tcp/ip tab, does not effect
the DNS server resolution. This effects your client resolver and if
netlogin will update its records correctly in the dns server.
3) The simple query has issues. This sometimes does not work, for unknown
reasons. I would not use this as a baseline to detirmine function. Use
netdig or nslookup to verify your dns server is responding to queries
correctly.
