hello. I found freeware OCR software on a webpage called Simple OCR.
Now, it works pretty good with my scanner. I am just wondering if
there is a way to copy the format of the page you are scanning, where
it will be WYSIWYG with the finished product. If this software won't
do it, then can anyone recommend any freeware OR commercial OCR
software that will do this that isn't really THAT expensive? I know
software like Omnipage Pro and other titles around the $100.00 range.
I have a ton of documents i would like to enter into my computer.

Thanks in advance for any info someone can give me.

You have to have at least Omnipage Pro 12 to retain the document layout.
You can buy Omnipage Pro 14 from http://www.scantips.com for $100.

Abbyy fine reader upgrade for about $150
http://www.abbyy.com/finereader

Or Textbridge. My version 8.0 does a pretty good job of retaining page
formatting. I beleive Omnipage and Textbridge use the same engine, as
Textbridge bought Omnipage a few years ago.

I'd vote, also, for Abbyy FineReader. Ver. 6.0 is fine, if you can
still get it. It will maintain formatting if you output a Word
Document, for one. PDF would retain format too, I think. It's very
nice for outputting simple txt format as well. Can automatically
insert an extra carriage return symbol between paragraphs, if you
like, to aid with word wrapped text. Off topic, regarding text files,
TextPad is good shareware for working with text files.
