I have a wireless router and I just got my laptop. IT has
a wireless card and a build in port. Today i had both
hooked up to the router. now i went over to my dads and
wanted to just directly connect to the internet with the
port but it still thinks im on the network or somthing.
My isp requires nothing just plug it in and go so how can
i switch or disable the network settings so i can get
online. thanks

Hello
you will need to go to your network properties >Control
Panel>Network Connections and right click your wireless
conection and left click disable then run the setup
wizard and setup for the other connection then you can
switch back and forth by disabling one and enabling the
other.
Hope this helps

That didnt work IT still wont connect to the internet. I
hit create new network connection and did direct connect
etc. and still nothing. i tryed removing the adapter and
reinstalling it but that didnt work either. any other
ideas?

Assuming you ran the network wizard and it failed.
Is your dad on dialup or dsl?
On your laptop, try disabling any network bridges (make a note of what was
bridged so you can replace them later)
Re run the wizard and make sure you're setting up network on the nic only,
tell it you want to manually create bridges then create none.
On your dads line, and if it's DSL, does the NIC have to be registered with
the ISP before you can connect? If so, and you can't register it, and you're
the only one using the line then try spoofing his MAC address (look at
properties for network card, Advanced tab, select Network Address and enter
the new MAC address in the Value box - remember to set it back to blank at
home)

(you said you used both wireless and wired connections with the router at
home, why?)

At my dads I have cable internet and it doesnt need to
have any registration or anything just plug and play.
Nothing was ever bridged i just had both connected at the
same time. I've tryed doing the wizard and setting it up
to make just a direct internet connection but it doesnt
seem to do anything. I even removed my wireless card
removed the NIC and then reinstalled the nic and then ran
the wizard but it still dont work. there must be some
settings somewhere that got changed. and the reason i had
both hooked up is because at first i only had 50% signal
on wireless and i was trying to stream music and it got a
bit choppy so i just plugged it in. now i have the
wireless box in my room so I want to be able to use the
wireless at home and the nic at my dads just connecting
directly to the cable modem.
