simple macro?

Hello everyone,

Using Word 2003. Want to create a simple macro that displays files in a
particular location.

I've created the macro:

ChangeFileOpenDirectory "\\Mydesk\My Documents\My name\"

Once I'm in this location the only thing I can do is select a file, or
cancel, when what I want is for this directory to open and then have the
macro stop so I can choose the file.

How do I do this?

Thanks!

This is a bit over the top as you can add folders to the Places Bar of the
File Open / File Save dialog boxes (the Places Bar is the list of locations
down the left side of the dialogs). To do this, open the File, Open dialog,
navigate to the folder and select it (don't open it) and under Tools Menu
choose Add to My Places.

You can add as many folders/locations as you like: make the icons smaller by
right-clicking in the Places Bar and choose Small Icons if it is too full.

Note: don't add mapped drives or locations that are not available
continuously: for example, if you add a mapped network drive that is
unavailable, when you select File, Open or File, Save Word may hang for
several minutes trying to find the missing location.

It would be very useful if I could do this, but when I follow your
instructions I don't get the "Add to My Places" option. I do see "Add to My
Favourites", but selecting it doesn't seem to add the folder to the Places
Bar.

I'm using Word 2000; is this feature not included in that particular
version?

Suzanne,

Thanks for that. I looked at the site, decided against mucking about with
the registry, then noticed the link to a freeware utility which does it all
for you. And it works a treat.

Do you or anyone know if there a keyboard-based way of navigating to the
Places Bar, after using Alt+F, Alt+A to open the Save As box? I do like to
use a mouse as little as humanly possible.

Many thanks,

Sorry to reply to my own question, but I found the answer: the sequence is:

Alt+F, Alt+A - to open the Save As box.

Shift+Tab, Shift+Tab - to move to the Places Bar.

Then you can navigate through the list with the up/down cursor keys, select
the one you want with the Return key, and Tab your way across to the Save
button.

Simple!
