Hello Everybody:
I have a simple problem that has grown into a giant thorn in my side.
I have winxp sp2. I've had this computer for about a year when th
power supply took out my motherboard and video card. I replace
everything in my computer with a new Biostar 945 motherboard, 425v p/s
an ASUS en6200 video card. I reinstalled winxp and reinstalled all m
settings and files from my laptop. I do not have a home network or
lan. This is a standalone computer. I cannot connect to the interne
through the dialup. I should be able to connect as nothing has change
with my isp or connection. My modem works properly. I connect to my is
and then nothing. I get page cannot be displayed errors. I have ru
ipconfig. I have fixed the tcp/ip. I have done the exceptions on th
firewall, turned off the firewall. By the way, my laptop works jus
fine. I have pinged microsoft and yahoo and the packets fail. I don'
know what else to do. Any suggestions

check your connection setting under internet explorer, ie/tools/internet
options/connections
select the dial up connection if using dial up OR
select LAN if using broadband
make sure "automatically detect settings" is selected.

if this does not work, check the settings under tools/internet
options/advanced tab and go down to the bottom to security and make sure ssl
2.0, ssl 3.0 and tls 1.0 is ticked. sometimes ssl 2.0 is not required, but
tls 1.0 is!!

if this does not work re-check your ip settings under local area
connection/properties/internet protocol (tcp/ip)/properties and make sure the
"obtain ip and dns address automatically is selected.

hope this helps.
Andy
