ok here it is:

Computer A and B are networked together. Computer A doesn't even see Computer B and Computer B sees Computer A and B, but cannot access A. Both A and B are enabled to share Printers and thier Hard drives.
I have enabled NetBios and have disabled both of the Firewalls.
Both machines are running XP Pro with service pack one.

When I try and access A this is the message i get: \\Andys is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found.

I'm pretty sure that i have given both computers permission. Also i know its not a workgorup issue i dont believe since Computer B can see both A and B.

If you need more info please let me know what you need.
I have been at this for hours and this is my last resort please help me. In desperate need to get this up and running for business. thank you in advance

Hi,

you don't need NetBIOS, you only need TCP/IP (and it will perform NetBIOS
over TCP/IP).

Did you try to ping PC B from PC A and the other way around? Did you try and
access PC B using \\<ip numnber>\<sharename>?

Replace <ip number> with IP number of PC that you are trying to reach
Replace <sharename> with name of a share you are trying to connect to.

Will these two PCs connect to the internet?

I hope this helps you out,

Mike

Thankyou very much for the quick help however it did not solve the problem. I'm sorry for forgetting, yes they do connect to the internet.

Did you try to ping PC B from PC A and the other way around? When you try to
ping don't use names, use IPs.

Did you try and access PC B using \\<ip numnber>\<sharename> e.g.
\\192.168.1.1\share

How are these two PCs connected? Hub or switch or cross over cable, or?

Can you tell what is IP on one PC and IP address on the other one? Do you
have firewall enabled on either one or both PCs?

Which service pack is installed on these PCs?

Yes, I tired pinging back and forth on each and tired to acess using IP
address\share. Still hasn't resolved it. I'm very puzzled. Thank you

Can you tell me IP number and subnet mask of both PCs?

UPDATE: able to ping B from A, still cant see B in A's Network Places.
Still cant ping A from B or access it in My Network Places.
Connected through a Cable Modem > Linksys Wireless Router: the router is
wired to A and gives a signal to an Access Point. B has a wireless usb
adapter receiving signal from Acess Point. Both have service Pack 1 and
neither has the firewall enabled.

Could you please post the final solution to this problem? I have the same problem. I think that the problem is with the router. I have the same router except it is not wireless. I am unable to ping any computer on the network. I used the network disk on each one. I would like to know why my network places/view network computers will lock up my machine. Any advice would be welcome!

I have nearly the same problem between two simply connected machines, one
running XP Professional and the other XP Home. Whether these are connected
via a Netgear DS108 hub or, alternatively, a FWG114P router I receive much
the same messages with same connection problems between machines including
unavailable answers to ping requests. Otherwise, both machines can access the
internet at the same time whether using the hub or the Wireless router.

Has an answer been found?

Service pack 2 seemed to take care of the problem. I can see all the
computers on the network and I have access to all of them like I should have
from the begining. Run Service pack 2 and then try it.
