I am trying to deselect Simple File Sharing but the box doesn't show up. I
am going to My Computer/Tools/Folder Options/View Tab and the last box is
Show pop up descrition. There is supposed to be a box "use simple file
sharing (recommended)" Where is it? I just got a new computer and have the
lastest version of Windows XP Home Edition installed.

Matt,

This is normal. You cannot disable Simple file sharing in XP Home Edition.

In order to do this in XP Home, you must first boot to Safe Mode as Simple
File Sharing is hard wired into XP Home Edition. Boot the system, start
tapping F8 until the menu appears, select Safe Mode from the list and press
enter. NOTE: whatever you wish to do with Simple File Sharing turned off
will have to be done while you are in Safe Mode because once you boot back
to normal mode, Simple File Sharing will again not be visible and your
ability to perform whatever function you are attempting will be gone as
well.
