My new project is to turn a bunch of word documents of a technical
nature(with a few .pdf's in for good measure) - some of them massive with
lots of pictures, which are currently accessible by download from the
website - into uniform system where you select the document (drop down
boxes, product, version ...etc). (no problem)
1.The documents are often composed of reused chapters, currently copied
across documents - a pain for editing - but will want reused chapters to be
taken from a common source in future.
2.We want a way of editing the documents/chapters, preferably in word if
possible and uploading them, but only preferable if it doens't force major
compromises elsewhere!
3.Automatic contents(chapters, subchapter...) generation would be a nice
feature.
I know there must be the technology out there and really just need pointing
in the right direction. An XML based solution would seem to work for all
these things.
Ideally solution should run in ASP and any database stuff on SQL server,
though given the tree structure of document selection it may well be
sensible to have it filesystem based.
cheers for any help/pointers
