Simple "Deleted" Question

Hello,

I had one user delete a file on his home directory on the
Network Server (Win 2K Server) from his workstation (Win
XP). Naturally he cannot recover it from his local
Recycle Bin since the file was on the server. The Recycle
Bin on the server shows "Empty". How do I get the file
back? Thanks

Hi Gal

Seems there is no method to recovery a deleted network file in W2K. You may
try 3rd party tools to recovery it.

Are you guys telling me that the only way to restore a
deleted network file is by restoring it from a tape
backup?! I find that hard to believe. If you can restore
a file from a Windows XP, there has to be a way to
restore a file from Windows 2000 Server. It is suppose to
be safer and more secure than the workstations. I also
want to know who deleted the file.

You could have done backups to any media not just tape. You could try
taking the HD to a data recovery specialist and hope that the data has not
been overwritten. This route to recovery will not be cheap and success is
not guarenteed.

HI there,

Items deleted from network locations cannot be restored from the recycled bin.
You need to restore the file from a server or user backup or by using a third party utility.

OK...we won't tell you that the only way to get it back
is to restore from backup. But then again, you DO want
the file back, right? Also...it wasn't me that deleted
it! so take the saddle off.
