microsoft's website, and done the compatability wizard to install Sim
City 2000 under win95/98/2000 modes. None work, I can't even get the
program to launch. Any Ideas???

Thanks, blake

Hi Blake,

Does the game fail to launch, or is it the installer?

Hi Blake,

Let's try a couple of things to get that working for you again:

1. Startup your system in SAFE MODE by pressing F8 repeatedly
while your system is booting up after you've shut down your system

2. Make sure you're using one of your Administrator's accounts.

Sim City 2000 installs and runs in safe mode, but doesn't run under a
regular boot. The error "Sim city 2000 has not been properly
registered with the system. Please re-install the game." shows when I
launch the game (not the installer).

Problem is that I did re-install it and tried to register it. The
software is so old that it doesn't recognize my modem, so I can't
register.

Thanks
Any other ideas?

Hi Blake,

What you've described sounds exactly like what would happen
if you try installing the game with a limited user account.

Install the game using an Administrator / Owners account.
See Control Panel / Users Account to identify which account that is.

When I installed the game, I was under the Administratior account, and
when I run it, I am under my account (Sys Admin). My account is set
up to have administrative privates, acess to root, intall and
un-intsall programs, make system changes, ect. You know the list.
The other two accounts on my computer are restricted user accounts.

Hi Blake,

Copy a shortcut to the game onto your desktop.
Right click the shortcut and choose the run as...
option to run the game using the same Administrator
account you used to install the game. Hope it works!

Hello Jimmy,

Sim City can't log on to the account. Says, "Logon failure: user
account restricted. Possible reason are blank passwords not allowed,
logon hours restriction, or a policy restriction has been enforced."

I tried this with my account, and made a new administrator's account
to be sure, my account has a password. The new one I made doesn't
have a password.

Hi Blake,

Uninstall the game, and reinstall it using your new administrator's
account. That should work perfectly, otherwise we'll have to
look into repairing your current windows installation.
