I bought a used Epson 2450 scanner which aside from it's own Twain 5
scanning software has Silverfast SE 5.5 bundled. I cant see how to change
the scan type to 16 bit Col?

The 3 options are: 48>24 bit Col, 16>8 bit Col, and 1 bit line art. Choosing
the first option results in a 8 bit file.

You probably need the regular un-limited edition of Silverfast to do that.
Don't expect to receive a copy of very good scanning software with a value
flatbed scanner.

You're probably right, except my even older, much older, scanner (which
just died) , a Scanmaker III with Scanwizard had that capability

Have you checked the Epson site for more current SW. Both versions of
Epson scan I have used have a 16bit option. A lot of folks have said
Silverfast SE is no better than Epson scan. In Epson scan use the
professional setting.

Hi Franko...

Silverfast is smart enough to know whether you're importing into
a 16 bit capable application... if it's not a 16 bit app, then
the 48 bit color mode disappears.

So - if you really want to use Silverfast, then you'll need to
either import into Photoshop (the only 16 bit I'm aware of),
or use the stand alone app (as opposed to twain)

Take care.
