Can you place a PCI-E card into a PCI-E meant for graphics cards? Or does it have to be a PCI-E 1x (X) slot?

No you can't, it has to be a dedicated pce-i x 1 slot, the little one.

What card is it anyway? A sound card I'm guessing.

btw, triplexDread's link is the sound card I have atm.

It's only £85.00 at OCUK.

But do not buy it, seriously, it has issues, it makes some games crash.

LOL.

I thought you had that one. Cant believe play charging 128£ for it. In good mind to write to them and tell em.

Almost £45 extra compared to ebuyer aswell

The x16 was designed for massive amounts of data.

Im not too sure about the bandwidth that a soundcard of calibur would send but i'm more than sure enough it comes no where near to a high end GFX card :)

But does that mean you could (theoretically) put it into the PCI-E slot used for graphics card hand have it work?

ah i dont think so. Configuration is probs different for that port although maybe

only way to find out would be to get tech specs for that x16 and compare them to the x8. Be a waste i rekon anyway.

But interesting to see if you can blow ya PC up ;)

"We threw the Xonar D2X (read: gently inserted – Ed) into a variety of PCI-Express slots – it doesn’t matter what length slot you use, be it x1 or x16, the interface will automatically adapt itself to work with it. We tried the card in several systems using x1, x4, x8 and x16 slots, both PCI-Express 1.1 and 2.0, and it worked flawlessly in all of them. The bigger problem though was finding a power supply with a spare floppy connector."

Well I never, I've learnt something today.

Good review that, although they obviously didn't try Oblivion; Fallout 3 and Call Of Juarez w/DX10 patch.

I had a problem using the floppy connector as well, I had to disconnect my floppy drive and re-route the cable to power the D2X. The reviewer is correct in stating Asus should have supplied a Molex to Floppy adapter.

Thanks Abarb! that was the kinda information i was looking for! I wanted to know just incase.
