Hi all

Having no luck at a new installation on my DFI Lanparty Ultra B. I have a
single Sata drive (non raid) and doesnt matter what I try it will not install
the SI3114 chipset drivers. I have tried using the drivers for XP with no
luck (it doesnt find the HDD). Any recommendations? I think instead of a new
install Im going to try the upgrade option instead.

I have installed Vista on separate partition from XP using the SI3112
drivers for XP. At what point are you trying to introduce the drivers? Have
you created an NTFS partition to take Vista?

No this isnt going on a separate partiton its overwriting the C: Drive (xp
installation) which is already in NTFS format
Do you have to have a new blank partition to install too?

What is it that you want to achieve? It is not clear to me at all. In my
case, I did not want to lose my XP installation and wanted a dual boot
system giving me a choice of XP or Vista on boot. To do this I had to have a
separate partition. If you do not have a separate partition you can only
upgrade or overwrite your version of XP. Of these, the former is the better
choice because otherwise you will lose all your XP programs and data.
Neither option is recommended because this version of Vista is only Beta. To
replace a final, and presumably stable, OS with a Beta is a drastic step to
take.

Actually, I am not sure that Vista will just overwrite an existing OS. It
expects either to upgrade or to be installed into a specific NTFS partition
with enough empty space to take it.

In any event, the SI driver must be installed early in the installation
using the load drivers button. The latter is equivalent to the F6 process on
XP installations.

OK im trying to do a fresh install onto a HDD that does have XP installed to
the C drive.
I dont care about losing any data whatsoever on this drive as I have already
imaged the drive using Ghost. (stored on DVD)
I am simply trying to install Vista to this hard drive from booting to the
DVD (as I used to using XP)
When doing this it looks for drivers for the Sata chipset, when I untick the
option to "show drivers not compatible with the hardware" or whatever it is I
then put the 3114 chipset driver in (on a floppy) and nothing happens really

I guess I will try wiping the C drive altogether first and then try
installing vista again but I dont really see how this will work if it cant
find the chipset drivers in the first place

Wiping the hard disk first should help. Also, make sure that your driver
floppy is in the floppy drive before you start the load driver sequence. If
Vista shows the correct SATA chipset in the sequence, select it and click
next. If it does not show the correct chipset there may be a problem with
the drivers on your floppy. Do you have the latest XP drivers for your
chipset from the SI website? Remember that you must have everything i.e. all
files (unzipped) from the original downloaded zip file on that floppy.

THE SAME BOAT>......... OBSOLETED

Well I finally figured my problem out anyway

I THINK it was beacuse my system was overclocked..........I reset everything
to default settings, tried again and the drivers for Si3114 were picked up
off the XP floppy!! Chuffed......all is now running apart from nforce 2
drivers which arent available it seems and so I have no sound....more fun and
games in the pipeline

Hi all

try (e-mail address removed)
I may be able to help you fix this
1- get the files from silicon image
for 31X and 35X
2-up date bios to 35X
3-then put 31X And 35x Files on floppy
4-then update drivers from floppy

My setup is based on nForce 2 and when I first booted up into Vista, I had
no sound but at some point shortly thereafter, windows update produced the
necessary drivers and I now have sound. Glad you got the SI side of it
working.

I have on my new pc 1 ide drive, which has Vista on it. There are also 4 SATA
drives, which I do not see. I downloaded 7 files from the site of Silicon
Image, but installing in device manager did not work. Who can help me?
