Hi,

I was wondering what are the signs of insufficient cooling in my computer?
I mean read that insufficient cooling leads to less stability of the system,
but what are the signs of instability? Is instability things like the
computer freezing up?

For example if my hard drive is not sufficiently cooled with a a hard disk
fan could it lead to suddenly not being able to save a file?

Thanks.

Peter

Greetings...

BSOD's, Freezes, Programs exiting for no reason, Data Corruption, Programs doing odd
things, Pretty much the whole gamut of bizarre and strange behaviors you can think of.

Other more extreme symptoms - Short life span of parts. Smoke. Flames.

Sagging melted looking plastic parts...
A charred insulation odor rising from your monitor...
The off white color (of most machines) looking like a dingy brownish/orange/ocre color
(too much sun and/or heat)...
An oily gritty grime coating that is difficult to remove from dangling wires and cables
inside the machine, as if it had been baked on...

No kidding, I've opened a number of machines that actually looked like the inside of a
very dirty oven!! Or under the hood of a very dirty engine!

A couple of years ago, I bought my mother a new PC. She had been using an old MAC +
that I had purchased new way back in 1985-86. She had been using it almost daily for
nearly 15 years using the exact same 1 (ONE) floppy disk.. No kidding! When I was
removing the old beast, my jaw almost hit the floor - The Mac, the floppy disk, and the
little power controller strip that it was all plugged into were all a deep Ocher color...
Digging into her desk drawer, revealed a box of almost 17 year old fuji diskettes, nine of
which were still pristine white still enclosed in their own individual plastic sleeves -
just the way they were the day they were made... She had mentioned that she had been
using the same diskette for 15 years, but I didn't actually believe it until I saw that
box of nine diskettes that I had purchased myself some 15 years earlier...
