I have recently bought a new computer that was supposed to be a good
games machine. AMD 3200 with a Radeon 9550 graphics card.
My problem is that whatever game I try - Medal of Honor - Soldier of
Fortune - Star Wars etc, I can play for a very short while and then I
get a blank screen with Out of Range in the middle. I have, as
instructed by the computer company, set my Ati at 1024 x 768 x 60htz
and still it dsoes it.
A Games Machine it ain't!!!!
Am I missing something or have I bought a rotten graphics card with
the machine. I would be happy to upgrade a little way if that would
solve my problem. I like to have my desktop with small icons (1280 x
960) but have to reset it each time I drop down to 1024 etc as I end
up with blocky ones.
Any help would be most welcome.... I emailed Ati and received their
standard reply form.

Probably a crap monitor, not a crap graphics card.

The message you're getting is likely from the monitor... it means you can't
run at the resolution and refresh rate selected. Very odd that it happens
half way through a game.

With you...

You lost me.

Take the monitor and possibly the computer back, something is wrong if it
won't run 1024x768@60Hz... 75Hz would be a minimum really.
