I have the above Sidewinder product, on my new computer
I cannot get it to work. I am running Win XP with USP 2.0.
2.4g system. Will this work on this system or have I got
to buy another controller.

someone mentioned that you have to go to Device Manager and intall the
software as an update.

Couple things to add.

There are actually 3 different Sidewinder Precision Pro's. There is the
gameport only version, a later release of the gameport one that also came
with a gameport to USB dongle that could be plugged into a USB port, and the
Precision Pro 2 which is USB only.

If you have the first one then it will never work on USB, even if you manage
to get one of the gameport to USB dongles that came with the second type.

If you have the gameport version that came with a dongle then you should be
able to get basic use out of it by just plugging it in. You won't be able to
get any of the key mapping abilities for the first two devices as the
Profiler software won't run on an NT OS.

If you have the USB only, the drivers are built in the operating system. You
will have to install the Profiler software from the CD that came with the
device.

If that doesn't fix things then you should check to see if your motherboard
is using a VIA USB controller. If it is there are some updates that fix VIA
chipset USB controller issue.

Via's web site mentions that ALL USB support for XP is built into XP and they
don't have any updates for this (unless you concider a filter patch for a PCI
based USB card with the VT83C572 chip an update--which does not apply to USB2.0
or any of the Rev 5 or later USB controllers.).
If none of that helps please let me know more specifically what you mean by
"cannot get it to work". Are you getting error messages, not seeing the
controller in games but can in the control panel, etc.

If I understood the original poster's message. The Sidewinder does not work and
they have a board with USB2.0.
I also am having problems with a Sidewinder Pro (plugged into the standard game
port of the onboard sound controller) when my USB2.0 controller (also onboard)
is turned on. I have an Asus mobo and this problem has been discussed on the
Asus mainboard NG quite some time ago.

Asus tried to say this is an XP problem, but I think that the same problem
occured when I was booted into Win98 as well.

Oops, sorry. I got your device confused with anothers post.

Have you tried using an add-in USB controller? If not I'd try one. They are
pretty cheap. I have had at least two test machines with VIA USB controllers
onboard that I HAD to put USB controllers into because the onboard
controllers had hardware bugs that could not be fixed with software.
