I have upgraded from 98SE to windows XP home edition and
want to reinstall the software for my wheel and joy stick
but the software say's some of the drivers are not
compatabile, any idea's now or am I up the creek.

Hi Jim,

Here's the instructions for both the USB and the Gameport models:

The version 4 software for USB Sidewinders is XP compatible.
It gives you a warning, you can click OK and continue installing it.
I've had the same experiences with USB cam's & other devices.

The version 3 software, isn't compatible. It uses XP's drivers instead.
USB devices just plug and play. GamePort devices need some work:

To install a GamePort controller, Plug it in, click Start / Control Panel /
Switch to Classic view if you haven't already / click Game Controllers
Click Add... / Select Microsoft Sidewinder Auto Detect / OK / OK.

thanks for the help where can I get version 4 software
please e-mail me thanks again

If you have a USB device, contact the support section in the user manual for
a replacement CD. Game Port devices cannot use the version 4.x software.

Hi,

It ships with the Sidewinder USB models. If you lost yours
you can still use your Sidewinder by installing it manually in
the control panel following the steps I posted previously. :-)
