When I try to start sidebar it says "only for administrator". Under my user
name it says "administrator". I already checked "start sidebar" at startup
in sidebar properties but it didn't put the icon in the task bar after
restart?

Have you tried clicking on "Windows Sidebar" in the control panel and
clicking on "How do I customize Windows Sidebar?" in the panel? There is a
host of FAQs about the sidebar.

You can also go to the Windows Sidebar folder in C:\Program Files and take
ownership of the folder. right-click on folder, select "properties", click
"advanced", click "edit", click the "owner" tab and change the owner to your
user name.

Ramesh,
Regarding the instructions in the link you gave me; 1.) I don't have a
"group Policy Editor", and 2.) in regedit, the entry for "Windows" is missing
under policies.

Any other suggestions to make me the administrator or turn on sidebar?

May I assume that you checked for the Policy setting under both the branches
(HKCU & HKLM)?

There is no path indicating the two you mention. I have a screen print of
what I get when I enter gpedit.msc. There is no indication of configuring
the computer. Is there another way to get there? Is there aservice that
must be running to get it?

I meant the Registry Editor.

HKCU implies HKEY_CURRENT_USER
HKLM implies HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

Note that there is also a REG file attached in the article link, which
removes the Sidebar Policy if present.
