Upon startup, Windows Sidebar fails to start with a message that it is
closing due to an error. When I click to find more info the DEP explanation
box pops up implying that Sidebar triggered a DEP event. What's going on with
that?

I am using Home Premium preloaded on a new Dell Dimension E520.

Clock and Slideshow and RSS NewsFeed. I got rid of the newfeed gadget
yesterday and this morning it starts up fine without an error. Maybe I'll
restart the news feed and see if it crashes the next time I do a cold start.

I have the exact same problem. I have a new DELL Inspiron with Windows Vista.
My gadgets are the clock, slideshow, and newsfeed.

Same problem with a new Lenovo. Gadgets loaded include Clock, Calendar,
Stocks, Yellow Sticky, and two instances of Weather. I couldn't find any hits

I had a new Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop do it. It has an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU.
1GB RAM, and Vista Business.

Per the posts here, I turned off the RSS gadget. So both I and my client
felt the sidebar is an annoyance anyway, we decided to turn it off
altogether.

Obviously, no more problem!

Nat_W,
I also have the problem but it's not consistent. The failure occurs once in
about every 10 startups of window. I have the following gadgets active:
Calendar, stocks, time, weather and news. I'm using a Dell E521 that's about
a month old and had the problem from day one.

same issue here. i have a new dell notebook, vista home premium, 2GB RAM,
AMD dual core. my gadgets are the news feed, clock, and slideshow. is this
a problem with a certain gadget? has anyone called customer support?

I have a sony vaio, getting the same crashes on a new session, but if
the laptop comes out of hibernation it's ok

I'm having the same problem with my new Lenovo Thinkpad T60. Hopefully
Microsoft will release a patch soon.
