Hi. I got a Sony Notebook with Windows XP home, and it is shutting down by itself without any notice (and not restarting). I have disconnected the Firewall and have my antivirus up to date

It usually shuts down if the harddrive is working a lot or if a program has 'stuck'. Does anybody know how to solve this problem

As well sometimes if it shut down, and it is too hot (the laptop) it wont turn back on again

thanks for your help!

This sounds like a hardware issue and nothing whatsoever to do with Windows
XP. I suggest you contact Sony.

Does it shutdown or does it crash? What indicators are there that it's too hot? Is the
fan working?

I have a Sony 2.4 Ghz laptop as well, and this problem just started for me as well. I had a Dell before this and the Dell also got very hot, I mean if your laptop was in you lap, you would burn your legs. The Sony gets hot as well, my fan works it has an intake on the right side of the laptop and an exhaust in the back. What made me think it was the heat was that not only are there two pegs under the laptop so you can prop it up so it isn't touching whatever surface it is on like the desk. Also when mine turns off it nothing bad happens I just have to turn it back on, no scandisk no errors, it works fine. Usually this happens when the hard drive is working more, so I thought maybe this was caused from making the computers hard drive to work more and would casue it to get too hot. I would contact Sony, but my one year warranty has just run out on the 9th of January. Their extended warranties are a little expensive. A one year extension is almost $200. This sounds like it is a problem of many VAIO's, with what I have been reading in the other post's. Does anyone have any ideas. The other people didn't name their computer but mine is the PCG-GRZ530.

Your problem is exactly the same as the one i have. My model is the GRZ630. My warranty is out as well. What do you suggest we could do
