I've just bought a Shuttle SN45G
(http://us.shuttle.com/specs_access.asp?pro_id=279) and have installed my
ATi Radeon AIW video card. This video card has a jack which goes into the
line-in of the soundcard (in this case on-board audio). However, the
line-in port on the shuttle seems to be on the front and it won't reach!

1. Can you get extensions?
2. Can you re-configure a port to be line-in?

Cheers,
Steve

i have a sk41g, i can use the rear output as input, just play with the
drivers from realteak or nvidia. i think if you switch from rear output
(the onboard soundcard) to line in it should work. otherwise you can try
to use the internal line in input. thats normaly for cd-rom, but windows
xp or so can use the digital output for audio music, so you can use this.

for more questions releating to shuttle barebone have a look at

What simon said :)
I just got a Shuttle SN41G from Newegg 2 days ago, and was scared when I
didn't see an input for sound on the back! I looked in the manual and
luckily it actually stated that the "Rear Out" Port can also be Line-In
(on the SN41G it is the middle audio port). I installed XP, and to make
sure it is set right, look in the "Speaker Setup" (I forget where that
is, I'm not in front of that machine right now), and there are a few
options, make sure it is set to "2 channel output" and the items to the
right should show the middle port as "Line In" (if it is set to Surround
Sound or the other options, the middle port will be labeled "Rear Out"
or some such).

Of course, if you actually WANT to use the Rear-Out, I suppose you'll
have to go with option 1, can you get an extension? The answer would be
"Yes, visit your local Radio-Shack" and pick one up for $5.

Now I'll continue looking for the solution to my issue, which caused me
to find this newsgroup :)

Welcome to WinExtra! - I hope you'll find help to lots of other things while
you're here.

The general consensus so far (and I've looked in lots of places) is that the
board is a load of tosh, in fact more than that, it is broken. For *some*
people it works, but for 90% it doesn't and there is no solution yet.

Suggestions are:

a) - Use external soundcard

The whole idea here is that I didn't have to shell out a load of money,
hence going for the on-board sound.

b) - Use extension from front line-in

Possible but I want to fix it *now*

c) - Wire the TV (in my case, ATI TV card) to the CD-IN using the analogue
CD-DA cable. Apparently it's not used these days as the drives all read
digitally.

I've tried everything and I can't get the rear line-in to work. It seems to
be a widely known problem with the motherboard, and still isn't fixed! I
guess I'll have to send the system back or buy an external soundcard (which
defeats the object of on-board audio).

hi!
Thanks Simon

your welcome

it is not the mb, is the soundchip. maybe you don the same i did: i
bought me for 8euro an soundblaster 1024 with digital output and so.
it solves 2 problems for me: bad soundquality from the onboard
soundchip, no more strange noises when i move the mouse (pci bus).

this is my recommendation for you. also the line in form the onboard
soundcard is, let me say terrible! my new sb1024 isn't the big hit but
good enough for.
guess I'll have to send the system back or buy an external soundcard (which

mhh, rma'ing would'nt solves the problem - this problem starts since
they released the first nforce xpc. some people have another revision of
the nforce board, so they have no probs (i think 1.2 or so).
