After upgrading to XP, I am bothered by all the messages
I don't need. I want to just print - I don't need a
woman's voice telling me that printing started, I I don't
want the pop-up-window. How do I turn them both off, to
allow printing in the background without disturbing me?

These settings are within your printer's software package.

You just have to open up your printer software and select a link to Maintenance
or Advanced Settings (or whatever your printer manufacturer has used). Then you
can turn of the voice notification and control other features.
