shutting down XP Professional

I am running XP Professional on a Dell Workstation.
Lately, I have to click the start, then turn off button
twice to get the machine to shut. Anybody else have this
problem. Thanks, Steve Trinkaus
 
Probably a certain programme causing it (Ad-Aware was notorious for causing
this until they fixed it). You could try temporarily removing possible
causes by using MSCONFIG (from the run line)! Start with groups then if shut
down is okay use selective elimination to finger the culprit!

Steve, that's how it works on my XP setups. While it's possible a change
took place that slipped by me, I can't remember it being any different.
Even if I switch to the classic style start menu, it's still a 3 click deal
to shut down. Actually, I use the keyboard (windows key, u, u) since I hate
to be clicking all of the time.

You can create custom shortcuts that make shutdown, hibernation, restart,
etc. one-click items. (I have one each for those three functions on my
QuickLaunch bar.) Here are the instructions:
