When I click on "turn off" my computer......first , end program window comes
up saying "hidden shell icon" then it says this is not responding.....end
task button has to be clicked. Then another end program windows pops up,
"aolware.exe" not responding and I have to click end task again then my
computer will shut down. I have not had this happen before now. It seems to
do this almost all the time now. Can you help solve this problem

A Google for "aolware.exe" brings up nothing, which may indicate that
the file has nothing to do with AOL but is instead malware. Malware is
one of the prime reasons for the symptoms you are having. Go through
these steps systematically:

After you are sure that the computer is 100% clean, if the problem
continues see this shutdown troubleshooter:

shelliconhiddenwindow error at shutdown

That error message window seems to be caused by Musicmatch Jukebox.
You do not need MusicMatch running at startup. You can always start the apps
manually.

Remove these two entries...
C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mm_tray.exe
C:\Program Files\MUSICMATCH\MUSICMATCH Jukebox\mimboot.exe

from...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
---

mm_tray.exe is the tray bar process for MusicMatch Jukebox which organizes
and plays music media such as MP3s. It gives the user easy access to the
MusicMatch Jukebox application and settings. This is a non-essential
process.

mimboot.exe is a process associated with Musicmatch Jukebox. The process
makes sure that Musicmatch is launched when starting up the system.

OMG I'm horrified of doing what you tell me to do. I'm really not that smart
about computers. I have no idea where Elephant Boy Computers are. Do I need
to hire someone to rid my computer of malware , that you suggested that I may
very well have? I just can't follow that long list of things to do that you
linked me to. I'm scared to death.

You suggested that I follow what Malke told me to do first.........I'm so
afraid to even try to follow what he told me to do. I Know nothing about
computers. Do you think I need to hire some one to do this for me?
Also, how do I locate the two files that you told me to remove? Duh...wish
I was smart like you guys.

Kathy, it has nothing to do with being "smart". We all have our areas of
expertise and not being computer-savvy has nothing to do with your
intelligence.

Most certainly if you are uncomfortable working on your computer or
going through the malware removal steps, you should take the machine to
a professional computer repair shop (not your local version of
BigStoreUSA). There is no shame in doing this; I don't hesitate to call
a plumber or take my car to the mechanic. Just take the machine in and
go do something amusing; you'll feel better and your computer will be
fixed.

Cheers,

Malke

Thanks Malke ......I feel so stupid. But the fun sounds good to me. Have a
