Have a problem with my computer shutting off and restarting on its
own. Sometimes while using it, sometimes while idle. I've replaced
the 20G hard drive w/a 100G. Replaced the mother board (generic) with
a Gigabyte board and new ram (512meg). Repaced the power supply with
a 325 watt dual fan. Has 1.4G AMD. All thats left is the video card,
cd drives and processor. Any thoughts on what I should try next.
Thanks in advance!
Jessica B.

Can you go into your bios, and monitor the fan speeds, and cpu
temperatures? Maybe you have a fan that's stoping/slowing down
causing the CPU to overheat?
Since you've replace the pwr supply, you can rule out a wacky
problem I saw a few years ago. Computer of a friend of mine would
do that, just all of a sudden would shut off and reboot. Finally he
found it. The pwr supply switch that sets up the power supply for
110/220 was "just barely" on the 220 side. Also double check
your AC line. Check the hot to ground to neutral AND hot to
ground and make sure you are receiving enough current out
of the wall.

Had a similar problem with computer warm starting then
closing down and restarting as soon as it started to load
windows. Fixed the problem by reformatting the HD and
reloading windows and other software again.

Follow-up from Jessica B:
Already reformatted and wrote zeros to the hard drive twice. This is
the 3rd fresh install of XP OS. The Gigabyte board came with a new
beefy processor fan. Replaced the power supply twice. Original
supply was 250watt, replaced with 300 watt, replaced again with 350
watt. Checked line voltage hot to nuetral and hot to common. Also,
put an expensive power filter on the line.
I'm going to check the bios settings as recommended. Do you think
maybe I invested a bit too much money in this thing.
More help greatly appreiciated.
Thanks again,
Jessica B
