Alan

I have tried to disable the automatic "restart on system
failure" to get around windows rebooting everytime I try
and shut down.

The error message I get on restart is
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

Does anybody know what this means or what to do about it.
I have tried to look up the sights for shutdown problems
on XP and it seems it can be caused by almost anything so
I am no further forward.
Regards Alan

the IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL message appears on my system
then, when it's becomes too hot and the hardware can't
handle it...
i suppose that u have overclocked ur system a bit, but
haven't cooled it down enough...
or maybe (if u haven't OC'd it) u just have to take it to
the quarantee repair...

So it is hardware failure in your system that produces
the error message?
That may be my cause also then. I actually have my
athlon 1000 marginally underclocked , and also use a mobo
fan as well as case fan . The cpu temp does not seem to
be high.
thank you for your reply, regards Alan
