Hi,
I've searched for this, but the only results aren't the same as what I'm
asking.
Can I create a desktop shortcut for ShutDown and Restart?
On my XP machine I can used shutdown.exe for this, but this 2k machine
doesn't seem to have that or an equivalent program, at least as far as I can
find.
There IS a recent thread here which talks about shutdown.exe, but it's
not clear whether that's a system file or a 3rd party thing. I assumed it
was going to be a system file. Either that, or Explorer is being abusive to
me? ;-)
If anyone wishes to make relavent comments on the following, input
cheerfully received:
Windows 2000 Pro, SP4, auto-updates used to get it up to speed. Passes all
diags, mainly CheckIt and SM mem tests.
Caveats:
-- First experience with win2k
-- Goal: Determine whether this computer is worth running; paid $250 for
the box.
-- Dell Precision 250 MT computer, taken from service in June; hdd, ram,
etc. stripped to one 17Gig, 512 RAM, 1.7 GHz dual CPU Xeons.
-- No OS or restore CD, no restore partition, BUT COA seems legitimate;
have checked it with MS Support folk. Thus, depending on an Image for my
"restore" media<g>.
So, if shutdown.exe should be there and isn't, I'm sol for the OS but
that's not really a big deal. I just thought I'd see how it works compared
to XP Pro. I don't have any apps written for dual cpu, so that "feature" is
disappointingly moot, it seems, at the moment.
Did I waste my money?
Regards,
P Gal
